The contents of Global Lingua courses are personalized. Our teachers always try to approach the learning of a language by using subjects which interest the student: it is always more motivating to follow a course if the activities are built around topics of interest to you.

The preparation courses for the SLE test will enable you to work on your oral comprehension and your written expression. Your teacher will therefore focus in the courses on your ability to interact and express your point of view on different subjects in French, using texts and real-life situations.

COURSE CONTENT

First, the teacher assesses the level of the student to better understand his needs and weaknesses. We provide all the necessary material for the course and our teachers guide you through your preparation by giving you all the information on your progress for each part of the exam.

WHAT IS THE SLE EXAM?

First, you need to know that the government uses 3 levels to measure French efficiency: levels A, B and C. To assess your level, you will have to take an exam, either for oral proficiency, reading comprehension or written expression. Each test is different. For example, you will have to answer 65 questions for the test of written expression.

Looking to assess your oral proficiency? Here is what to expect during the oral test of the Second Language Evaluation of the Public Service Commission of Canada.

Part 1: Questions and answers about work or other familiar activities

The first part lasts around 2 to 6 minutes. You have to answer some short questions about your work (or other familiar activities if you are not currently employed). Brief and factual responses are expected.

Part 2: Listening and speaking in response to short audio recordings

In the second part, you listen to two short voicemail messages (10 to 15 seconds each) and two work-related conversations (30 to 35 seconds each). You will hear these messages twice, but pay attention. You will have to identify the reason for the call, what needs to be done or what help is being offered.

Part 3: Talk with follow-up questions

You have to choose between three topics for a talk with the assessor. After choosing one topic, you have a minute and a half to prepare, and then two to three minutes to talk. Then, you will be asked to answer follow-up questions.

Part 4: Listening and speaking in response to a longer audio recording

Finally, you have to listen to a two-minute recording of a work-related conversation between two people who are having a meeting. You can hear it twice, so be focused. Afterwards, you’ll be asked to give a brief summary of the conversation’s content and answer some related questions.

To prepare for the SLE, or Second Language Evaluation of the Public Service, the Global Lingua’s teacher will send you corrections in red of your compositions, letters, cases, etc. as well as grammar exercises to help you improve your weak points.

For the oral expression, the teacher gives his or her opinion and corrects the student while he / she speaks and writes the corrections on Google Meet so that the student can understand the mistakes being made. Targeted exercises will be assigned to help the student improve for all parts of the exam.

To prepare for the written comprehension, the student will receive a case to read with questions to answer, the teacher will correct the exercises and offer tips to improve the reading comprehension.
