This course program is designed for people who want to learn Catalan, whether they are beginners or more advanced in their learning. Catalan is a language spoken by approximately 10 million people, especially in the eastern part of Spain (Catalonia, Valencia), the Balearic Islands, Andorra and even in France, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. And don't think that if you speak Spanish, you will understand Catalan! For example, the word “colgar" means "to bury" in Catalan, but "to hang" in Spanish.

DISCUSSED SUBJECTS

Thanks to our classes, our beginner students acquire a basic knowledge of Catalan, allowing them to have simple talks with natives. At the end of our courses, beginner students can introduce themselves in Catalan, write short texts, share their opinions and ask for information.

Our more advanced students in Catalan will be able to give their opinion on complex topics. The teachers approach the concepts of the Catalan language by using topics of interest for the students. The first courses are usually used to better understand the individuals and allow the teacher to target the interests of the latter.

TEACHING METHODS

Depending on your preference, Catalan lessons can be provided remotely by Google Meet or by phone. However, teaching by Google Meet is ideal when the individual is a beginner since it allows screen sharing, exchange of texts and images. In this sense, Google Meet becomes a very informative visual support that gives the student the opportunity to integrate more quickly the various notions of Catalan. It is possible to make changes to the course schedule, without penalty, with 48 hours notice.

At Global Lingua, there is a study area that contains your class schedule and the course notes you exchanged between you and your teacher. It is also possible to ask your teacher for exercises you could do outside of school hours.

LENGTH OF THE CLASSES

You can schedule your language courses depending on your availability and on the frequency that suits you best. Beginning students usually choose to start the program with a 30-minute class. Once they are more comfortable with their learning, most students continue the program by attending one-hour classes.
